How it works

You tell us
Tap or call Troy at (832) 422-5926. We need a name, an address, and a sentence about what's going on. That's it.

We call you
A real person calls or texts you back, usually within a couple of days. We'll agree on a Saturday that works and ask where the gate is.

We show up
A crew arrives in marked shirts with our own equipment, does the work, and leaves. Nothing to pay. Nothing to sign.
Who you're talking to
Hi, I'm Troy.
I started The Wayside Project because I kept noticing the same thing driving around Tomball and Magnolia — yards that had clearly gotten away from someone. Usually that's not laziness. It's a bad back, a hospital stay, or a husband who used to handle it.
I'm in my twenties, I live and work here in North Houston, and I do marketing for my family's business. This isn't a company and it isn't a fundraiser. It's a few of us with mowers and a Saturday morning.
We don't sell anything, and we're not going to ask you to come to church. We just want to cut your grass.
The other half of this is the people who show up. A lot of us want our faith to be something we actually do, not just something we say we believe — and there's no obvious place to start. This is a place to start. Somebody gets their yard back, and a handful of twenty-somethings get a morning that meant something and a few people to spend it with. I think it helps both sides.

No proof required
Who this is for
You don't have to prove anything to us. There's no income check and no paperwork. If a yard has gotten away from you, that's enough.

If you work with elderly or homebound clients, you're right to be careful about who you pass along. Here's everything you'd want to know, in one place.

- What it costs, what we collect
- Nothing, and almost nothing. No invoice, no tip expectation, no “free estimate” that turns into a bid. We take a name, a service address, contact info, and a short description of the situation. Nothing financial, ever.
- What we don't do
- We don't sell, share, or resell any information from this site. We don't do tree removal, roofing, or anything requiring a licensed contractor.
- Who shows up
- Volunteers 18 and over, in marked shirts, with a named crew lead. We tell the client who's coming before we arrive.
- Faith
- We're Christians and that's why we do this, but help is never conditional. We won't invite your clients to church in exchange for yard work.

Why this exists
It goes both ways
There are young adults who want to put their faith to work and don't know where to start. And there are people two streets over who need a hand right now. This puts them in the same yard on a Saturday morning.
For the neighbor
The work gets done. No cost, no obligation, and nobody asking anything of them afterward.
For the volunteer
A real way to live out what you say you believe — with people your own age, in your own town, on a Saturday schedule that fits an actual life.
